Downcast Bertrand (Matthieu Almaric) is suffering a midlife crisis. When he answers an ad placed by a group looking for a new member for their male synchronized swimming team, he has no idea that he'll be treading water with a truly colorful bunch of lovable outcasts. The team – all sagging muscles and thinning hair and each with his own particular set of problems – is aiming for high-level competition. Braving the skepticism and ridicule of those around them, and trained by a fallen champion trying to pull herself together, the group set out on an unlikely adventure, and on the way will rediscover a little self-esteem and a lot about themselves and each other.
SINK OR SWIM is definitely reminiscent of THE FULL MONTY, looking at A group of 40-something male masculinity and finding a sense of belonging as the world moves on without them. The result is pure hilarity. French director Gilles Lellouche made a splash at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with a hugely entertaining and moving comedy about dreams that can come true even if we don’t dare believe in them.
