An environmental ‘Heart of Darkness’ journeying through the majestic-yet-threatened wetlands of south-central Africa.

The Okavango Delta stretches from Angola through Namibia into Botswana, and covers some of the largest thriving wilderness areas left in the world. An oasis of fresh water in one of the driest places on Earth, it shelters the highest population of elephants in Africa, but is under threat from diminishing water supplies. In an effort to catalog the health of the waterway and the creatures within it, a team of scientists, filmmakers and local guides begin a four-month journey inland from the basin’s illusive water source, but must contend with unpredictable terrain, hostile animals and the lingering aftermath of Angola’s bitter civil war.

As the country’s economy develops and its population grows, the delta’s water supply is increasingly threatened and local populations are pushed to the edge in their efforts to survive. Combining stunning cinematography with a fascinating look at one of the world’s most beautiful natural environments, INTO THE OKAVANGO constructs a moving portrait of post-war Angola and the interconnections between people and the natural world.
